Lucy Ivanova

Lucy Ivanova was born in 1989 in Dnipro. In 2009, she graduated from Dnipropetrovsk Theater and Arts College (G. Cherneta studio), and in 2015, from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv.

A member of the Montage collective, Lucy actively participated in various art events such as the Festival of Young Ukrainian Artists at Mystetskyi Arsenal in 2017 and the Biennial of Young Art in Kharkiv in 2019. She has been a consistent contributor to the Mohrytsia International Land Art symposium. In 2019, she co-curated a visual arts residency program at ArtSvit Gallery in Dnipro alongside Yegor Antsygin. Lucy currently resides and works in Vienna.

In her artistic process, Lucy draws inspiration from nature and her real-life experiences, transforming them into her unique artistic vision. Her method involves multiple approaches, blending narrative, painterly aesthetics, and balancing abstraction with reality.

Reflecting on her creative journey, Lucy describes a pivotal moment: "The greatest success for me as a painter is when you paint for a long time, and then, sometimes through despair, there comes a magical moment - the loss of control over the canvas.

And then everything works out. How this happens is a mystery that draws me to painting. I am a rational person, but painting is something pleasant to lose control over."
